30 for 30 Roundup: Week Four

2 days left, and I am anxious for this remix all to be over. Partly because I've been feeling really inhibited by my choices (and trying to not repeat outfits), and partly because I feel much more inspired to remix my whole wardrobe better--I want to get back to the rest of my closet!

I'll share my final two days and some thoughts in recap later this week.

(p.s. I'm sorry to all of you readers who don't live in a coastal desert climate. I feel just a teensy bit guilty posting all these pictures outside with the sun glaring in my eyes while some of you are suffering through cloudy, snowy days)

I realize how awkward me not smiling looks and I'm going to avoid it from now on.

Also, I completely over-wore my gray flats this week. They are just too easy to love.

ps. that blue striped dress is what I bought with my Shabby Apple groupon: L'Artiste.
I love it!

Saturday we had a lazy morning, hiked and had a late lunch at Pizza Port.
We tried a couple of their signature micro-brews and my family was impressed to know that San Diego's pizza is tolerably good :-)

We ended the weekend in Old Town, which may have been everyone's favorite. My sisters stocked up on souvenirs while my dad, E, and I walked through all the historical buildings.
We ate at Casa De Reyes, which was delicious (and my dad got his wish--authentic mexican food, and really good margaritas)

p.s. If you're going in the month of December, you should know that if you spend $20+ in any of the stores, you get a $5 coupon for any of the three restaurants inside the park
Also, a Monday morning in off-season is the best time to go! We almost had the place to ourselves.

Was sad to see my family go but we all had such a great weekend!

um....thank you?

Today I got a compliment that I think was meant as a note of pity.
A condescending compliment, if you will.

The words were: oh, that's a cute outfit, with the layers"
but it sounded like "nice try honey, but it's not really working"

I have never had this happen to me before.

for reference, here's what I'm wearing today:

Day 24

(granted, I should have worn a necklace, but otherwise I'm still happy with this outfit)

Have you ever received (or given) a fake compliment?

ps. today I also received a compliment from a barista at a new local coffee shop that my hair was "perfect." So he got an extra tip today.

A Thankful Weekend: pt 1

Thanksgiving went off without a hitch-- 12 of us.

I already mentioned what I made, but I think I was most proud of my smooth gravy!

I felt bad that everyone came out on one of the coldest weekends in SD in a long time! (But it was still 40-50 degrees warmer than Chicago, and sunny)

Thanksgiving was spent relaxing with family. We played games into the night, ate way to much and chatted--just what a holiday should be!

Friday included Petersons Donuts, San Diego Zoo, and a sunset harbor cruise.
It was a beautiful day, and I felt like I discovered this city all over again through the eyes of my family.

For dinner, I made E's favorite--Pasta Carbonara (it's a crowd pleaser!), and all 8 of us crammed around our tiny table with a mish-mash of desk, table, & camp chairs.
